Active RFID Provides Enhanced Security While Improving Efficiency
DALLAS, TX, July 12, 2005 — AXCESS International Inc. (OTCBB: AXSI.OB), a leading provider of Active Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems today announced that its vehicle access control system is being utilized by Great River Energy, an electric utility company, to automatically control vehicle access at remote secured locations. The system provides automatic identification and validation of authorized employees, tracking employee activity and reducing the time it takes to enter the gated areas, hence providing security improvements needed for homeland defense initiatives.
“We needed to upgrade our security system from a manual lock and key system to electronic gate access,” commented Mark Royseth of Great River Energy. “By installing AXCESS’ access control system, we are able to automate entry into the facilities for authorized personnel and greatly enhance our security. In addition, we now have an event log that automatically tracks employee activity across multiple locations.”
Employees are provided with an active RFID key tag that transmits its unique user identification to a palm size receiver tied to the gate controller. Entry is immediately provided for authorized personnel at gates where previously drivers had to exit the vehicle and manually unlock the gate. Now, with automatic identification and access the driver never leaves the vehicle, improving security and efficiency.

AXCESS’ patented ActiveTag RFID product uses small, battery powered tags (generically called “active” tags) that when automatically activated transmit a wireless message to hidden palm size receivers. The receivers are connected via an industry standard interface to existing security alarm equipment or networked on the existing corporate network. Optionally, the tag system can be used to trigger security video recording and live remote video transmission using proprietary AXCESS technology. The ActiveTag products are used for a variety of security applications, including automatic personnel & vehicle access to facilities, corporate asset tracking and protection as well as special purpose sensing. Automatic email alerting and paging is offered for rapid response to security incidents.
